Teacher of Geography MPS
We are looking for a well-qualified teacher of Geography with A Level teaching experience. The applicant should be someone with enthusiasm and energy, who will be active and play a full role within the Department and the life of the school. You must be a confident and competent Geographer, be able to deliver high quality A Level lessons, have the ability to motivate students, and be creative in developing positive teaching and learning strategies. We believe that this would be a good opportunity for someone wishing to move towards leading a department. Stamina and the ability to work with others on developmental activities are important, and a sense of humour always helps! We expect a great deal of our staff and always look for energy, determination and the willingness to work hard.
Geography is taught to all students in Key Stage 3 for 3 hours per fortnight.
In Key Stage 4, the majority of students continue with at least one Humanities subject, and many choose to take two to GCSE. Consequently, Geography is a very popular option for GCSE [AQA A].
Geography is currently the most popular A Level choice [AQA] and results in Geography have been very good in recent years. Many students choose to pursue the subject at University.
The closing date for applications is 12-noon on Friday 10th April 2015, although earlier applications would be very helpful.
Applicants should also expect to be a Form Tutor [unless a newly qualified teacher prefers otherwise] and be aware that, at Uplands, appointments are made of teachers committed to the personal development of students, rather than simply demonstrating a specialist expertise.
Uplands is an 11-18 mixed comprehensive in Wadhurst, East Sussex in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Close in location to Tunbridge Wells, the school is approximately 60 minutes by train from Central London, 40 minutes from Hastings and the South Coast and 40 minutes from Maidstone. We currently have 1000 students on roll which includes a Sixth Form of 200 students.
The appointment will be from September 2015. The successful candidate will be required to complete a questionnaire regarding his or her health record for the information of the County Medical Officer of Health, and it may be necessary to have a chest X-ray. Confirmation of higher education qualifications and a statement for Criminal Records Bureau enquiry will also be necessary, before the appointment is confirmed.
Candidates should be aware that Uplands is a non-smoking environment.
